BRAGS

Mark Clarke (Rotarian of the Month): Mark took the opportunity to brag about he and Linda's 44th wedding anniversary! Congratulations to the both of you!!

Leonard Champion: 1st part: the fire department just received a 1.1 million dollar grant for a new ladder truck. 2nd part: he is very proud of the way his fire department team handled the recent Marian building fire. Both of those brags were worth a total of $40.

Dale Johnson: Not sure why, but Dale bragged $16 on hitting 16 red lights on the way to the club meeting this morning.

James Thomas: and his wife Annie, recently celebrated their two year anniversary. We wish you many, many more to come. $25

Mike Gibson: just returned from a great vacation trip to the San Juan Islands in the state of Washington (very near Seattle). He and Marla had a great time. $25

Carol Bradfield: was very proud of her son who recently received his MBA degree and graduated from William and Mary University. That brag was worth $25.

Laurie Tamura: apparently, birthdays abound at the Tamura household during the month of August. They plan on celebrating 8 of them this weekend when they all get together. Laurie is especially looking forward to hers as she offered up a $59 brag (for old times sake). Happy Birthday everyone!

Pat McDermott: also spent some quality time up in the Washington / San Juan Islands area. Being the daredevil he is, he actually wore his Patriots hat into a local Seattle bar. He did however manage to come back in one piece (so he must have done some serious pleading for his life). Anyway, he and Cyndy also had a great time on their vacation trip. He wanted to brag $5 (because that how he rolls), but the Rotarian crowd deservedly shamed him into $25 instead.

FINES

Jim Peterson & Ted Ortega: Weren't around to brag about their recent golf tourney win, so consequently there was a $25 brag for both of them.

Glen Morris: forgot to mention his birthday. When you get to be that age, you tend to forgetwink$30

PROGRAM

SMOOTH Senior Transportation Service

This week's program was presented by Mr. Jim Talbott (Executive Director) of SMOOTH (Santa Maria Organization of Transportation Helpers). SMOOTH began serving the community in 1974 when a group of concerned residents saw the need to help keep elderly family members independent and safely in their homes, avoiding costly institutionalization. With the help of several civic groups, the SMOOTH senior bus service was created. In 2003, SMOOTH recognized the growing number of seniors who were "falling through the cracks" with traditional transportation and needed a safe, reliable, affordable alternative to driving. The Senior Dial-A-Ride was created to answer this need. Currently this program provides service to hundreds of seniors in our community. If you would like more information, or care to donate to this much needed organization, please call (805) 922-0146.
