ANNOUNCEMENTS

1)  Mollenkopf vs McDermott: In the spirit of friendly competition, Kristine and Pat are standing by their respective teams (Seahawks & Patriots) by making a friendly wager for the upcoming season. Whoever has a losing season between the two, has to wear (and buy I assume) the other teams jersey. We didn't quite hear for how long though?? Anyway, it should make for some fun times in the coming weeks. Good luck to both of you!

2) S.M. Rotaract Charter Event:

7) Guatemala Trip: Mark Jackson is going to Guatemala to help with an annual Rotary International project. He has gone before and highly recommends the experience to all members. If you are interested, the trip will occur in February 2018. Please contact Mark for more details.

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION

This morning Roberto Rodriguez was given his official red badge to officially welcome him as the newest member of our Breakfast Rotary Club. (pictured: Kevin Walthers, Roberto Rodriguez, Mike Gibson & Kristine Mollenkopf)

BRAGS

Mark Clarke (Rotarian of the Month): With only two meetings left in the month, Mr. Clarke was unfortunately absent this morning. Hopefully he will be here next week to take advantage of his last chance to have a "free" brag and be immune from fines.

Jerry Walsh: recently returned from a vacation to Great Britain. He also experienced a surprise award ceremony from our local Elks Lodge. It appears that Jerry has been the chair for the club's scholarship committee for a whopping 46 years!! Thank you Jerry for all the time and contributions that you've given to our community. $50

Mark Jackson: First of all, many thanks go out to Mark for actually reading the Bull-A-Ton each and every week (you other members take note). If he didn't, how else would he know that he went to Lake Tahoe and attended a Rotarian member son's wedding all by himself (no expense spared, what a guy). The only problem is.....he didn't.
Thank you anyway Mark for the $25 brag. Please know that the Bull-A-Ton editors definitely appreciate your continued support and interest in our fine publication.smiley

Frank Ortiz: was very impressed with fellow club member Kevin Walthers. Not only did he give a spectacular speech at a recent AHC event, but he also managed to include Paul Harris principles into the message as well. Awesome job Kevin!! Great practice for our future club president (2019-2020). $25

Shannon Seifert: bragged on Wendy for inviting her to a preview of the new restaurant Bella Forno (in Old Orcutt). She also wanted to brag on all club members who helped with the YMCA's "Day in the Park" last Sunday. She bragged a significant amount of $46 (but I forgot what the significance was....sorry)sad

Tim Seifert: bragged on the Rotary BBQ team at "Day in the Park". In particular, a big shout out went to James Thomas and Roberto Rodriguez (aka "The Bun Machine"). $20

Valerie Boice: As president of the AHC foundation, she wanted to mention the upcoming Gala that is scheduled for October 21. She is very proud of Kevin Walthers and all that he's done to help promote and improve our local community college. She is also very proud to be an instant grandmother (through her recent marriage). She now boasts four grand daughters and one grandson. Congratulations Valerie! $75

Mike Gibson: also bragged on the club and everything that was done at "Day in the Park". He was especially proud that we fed over 100 volunteers (no charge) as well as sold sandwiches as a fundraiser and we still managed to make a  profit. Great job guys!! Thanks Mike for bragging $30.

Michelle Jensen: also bragged on the "Day in the Park" event. Not only was it fun, but she also found a few more high school students that wanted to join her Interact Club at Righetti. $25

Dale Johnson: was very impressed with Andy Caldwell's latest newspaper editorial. Didn't quite hear what the subject was, but I'm sure it was great. $25

Pat McDermott: Pat fondly told the story of how he and Cyndy met at Cal Poly quite a few years ago. Using the sure fire pick up line by calling her "Mom"????........ he somehow managed to get a date with her. The rest of course is history as they have just celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary. Congratulations you two! We wish you many, many more to come. $37

Kristine Mollenkopf: bragged $25 on Kerin Mase and Marian Hospital for allowing our club to hold our meeting there last week and giving our members a tour of the facility.

FINES

Kevin Walthers & Peter Sterling: were each fined $30 each for signing up for "Day in the Park" and then not showing up to help. I'm sure it just slipped their mind..............but that will still cost you.

Laurie Tamura: apparently Laurie forgot to brag about her recent birthday. So that will only cost her a mere $25. Happy Birthday Laurie!
PROGRAM

Santa Maria Public Library
Larry Nimmer

This week's program was presented by Larry Nimmer, a professional videographer working with our local library. Mr. Nimmer has filmed a number of public relation commercial spots for the library keying in on the many programs and resources available from the facility. Before viewing, the speaker asked all Rotary members to fill out a quick survey on what their opinions were of the library. After the commercials were presented, the group was then asked if their perceptions had changed. The program was interesting as it brought forth many options open to seniors and young children that the group was unaware of.
