BRAGS

Jean-luc Garon (Rotarian of the Month): First of all today was his birthday (Happy Birthday!!!). He also bragged about the recent remodel of the S.M. Inn restaurant. It was closed on the day after Easter and reopened on Mother's Day with a brunch that served in excess of 650 people. Join the Inn as it celebrates it's 100 year anniversary!

Barn Party Luau Brags

Kristine Mollenkopf: was very proud of all club members that once again made the Rotary Luau one of  Santa Maria's best fundraisers of the year. This year's net total should fall somewhere between $60 - $65,000. She especially wanted to brag on the BBQ team that put together the great meal that everyone enjoyed (an official photo and a "special" bottle were given in appreciation). Great job Everyone! $100

Mark Clarke: gave big "thank you's" to all of his clean up crew which included members of the newly formed Rotaract Club. They started at 8:00 AM and everything was done by 10:30 AM just in time to go celebrate Mother's Day. $50

Craig Bernard: bragged on his gaming dealers that did an outstanding job. He also sent out a brag to Terri Stricklin and "The Hitching Post" for providing their great food at the Friday night work party. That was worth $50

Pat McDermott: was very happy to brag on the Bar Chairman, James Thomas who once again primed the bidding pump with his vast array of  thirst quenching libations (editorial fancy talk). $25

James Thomas: Thanked all of his bartenders for their outstanding customer service which helped generate $1,182 in tips that go directly to the club. $25

Mark Jackson (Decorator Extraordinaire): who commended all of his decoration helpers that helped during the last few weeks. The teamwork displayed was much appreciated. $25

Kevin Walthers: thanked all of his BBQ team members for their welcoming support of his son,Trey. His son learned many things along the way (some good, some bad wink) and had a great overall time. $25

FINES

Kerin Mase: was fined $30 for not using her teacher voice (or maybe it's just that Laurie can't hear?) $30

Everyone Else: President Tamura announced that all those that haven't been fined yet will see a $30 fine on their next statement (sorry, only one meeting left, not too much time to catch up)

PROGRAM

Rotarians in Guatemala

This week's program was presented by Royce & Diane Smith and their teammate Pat Grijalva. The three of them recently returned from an annual trip to Guatemala, where they helped the local citizens build a new school that hopefully be staffed and open by January 2018. Once completed, the new building will consist of three classrooms and two offices. The work will be accomplished by three different Rotary teams of 7 to 11 people. Each team will be responsible for different portions of the construction phase. In addition to the necessary labor involved, the participating Rotarians also helped teach the native children many educational subjects such as the use of computers, library reading and basic dental hygiene to name just a few. The next trip is currently being planned for somewhere around February 2018. If anyone is interested in traveling with them next year, please contact club member Mark Jackson for more information.
