PROGRAM

Shannon Sweeney
City of Santa Maria
Water Resources Manager

This week's program was presented by Shannon Sweeney, the Water Resources Manager for the City of Santa Maria. Ms. Sweeney gave a very informative power point presentation on the state of our city water and what measures are being used to improve and maintain the current quality. The most important mission at this time is to reduce the amount nitrates that form in the groundwater supply. This is being done in a variety of ways, but the most current project at Jim May Park may be one of the solutions to our future needs. Shannon presented data that showed the state of the city's water versus state water and how we have to adjust our system to create the correct acceptable ratio. The Jim May Park project created a bio filter using a select amount of the proper wood chips that the water supply can filter through. The entire process is extremely fascinating as well as being even more so complicated. The program was very well done and prompted many questions from the audience members afterwards.
