PROGRAM

District Governor, John Weiss

Our District Governor, John Weiss was introduced by Sandy Nickels (Grover Beach).  John has personally sponsored over 50 new members and Chartered both the Morro Bay club, and High School Rotaract club.  This morning’s visit was his 15th club visit.  He appreciates his wife Cristine who has been to almost all of them.

There is a Paul Harris Service Fellow award waiting for Lee Carroll,  He would have been recognized if he had been present.

It is always a highlight for the Governor to ask clubs about what they do.  He stressed the importance of having fun while providing service.  This is something our club does very well.   John reviewed the projects in which club has been involved;
  • Barn Party Luau  and the BBQ Crew
  • The Christmas Parade of Lights; this will be our 23rd year putting on this event with a $43,000 budget.  It is the kick-off to the holiday season in Santa Maria and our biggest event.
  • $33,000 is given away in scholarships to high school students,  a great program for supporting our youth
  • Kids Day in the Park, which we have sponsored for about 30 years.  This is a huge collaborative event.
Governor Weiss stressed his projects
  • Peace
  • Increasing awareness about the problem of human trafficking
  • The importance of growing our clubs
