Chris Hastert  President 2012-2013

A member since 2009, multiple PHF awards, and past-president of the Rotary Club of Santa Maria-Breakfast is leaving the Santa Maria Airport (SMX) and will become the Airport Director for the Santa Barbara Airport (SBA), effective October 1, 2022.  Chris served SMX as the GM for 14 years and has been instrumental in promoting and attracting additional airlines to the airport.  He is also responsible for a number of significant advancements, including a return of the Airfest, completion of a 20-year master plan, designation as a US port of entry, lengthening the runway to allow expanded use of the airport facilities for fire fighting and package delivery.  We wish you and your family well, Chris!

  BRAGS
Chris Hastert announced (9/22) his departure from the Santa Maria Airport to become the Airport Director for the Santa Barbara Airport and, as such, will be departing SMBR.  $100

Holly Edds proudly announced the Chalk Festival was a rousing success, complete with some surprise benefactors helping kids that otherwise would not have participated.  $50

Jim Bray celebrated wife Denise's birthday...with a little help from his friends!  $35

Mark Jackson thanked departing member Chris Hastert for being such a good sport for his Step Down celebration.  Must've been a good one, since it occurred nearly 10 years ago. $50

Terry Dworaczyk (you try spelling this phonetically) and his family did a motor home tour of the Northwest and Glacier National Park in celebration of his birthday!  $150

FINES
Berto managed to have a picture of Jim Peterson & Mike Moats during one of recent meetings.  Apparently, they were not paying much attention to the subject matter.   Mike shared that the back of Dr. Jim's head was quite interesting!  $30

Jim Bray should have proudly fessed up to being mention in Rona Barretts magazine. $30

Dr. Jim recently attended a Rona Barrett program.  Berto looked and looked and looked, but couldn't see a Rotary pin on the good doc.  $30

The Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG) was established as a joint powers agency in 1966.  This association consists of each city (8) and county governments in Santa Barbara County. Many of the issues that face local governments and the people they serve such as traffic, housing, air quality, and growth extend beyond jurisdictional boundaries. SBCAG’s primary purpose is to assist local governments in solving common problems and addressing public policy issues that are regional or multi-jurisdictional.  SBCAG distributes local, state, and federal transportation funds and acts as a forum for regional collaboration and cooperation between agencies and addressing regional and multi-jurisdictional issues.

SBCAG has federal and state-legislated responsibilities to provide regional and transportation planning.  Significant planning areas include the Regional Growth Forecast, Census Information, Regional Transportation Plan, and the Regional Housing.  The association also serves as the lead agency on regionally projects in coordination with Caltrans and local agencies.

Marjorie Kirn
MARJORIE "MARJIE" KIRN, as the Executive Director of the SBCAG since 2017, is responsible for working with the 13-member Board of Directors to bring to focus regional and multi-jurisdictional transportation priorities for all eight cities and unincorporated areas in Santa Barbara County.  Kirn oversees a $66 million annual budget and 19 employees.  Prior to joining SBCAG, Kirn was Executive Director for the Merced County Association of Governments.  Kirn holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication from the University of California, San Diego. She is married with three adult children and is an avid tennis player.
