Camping Trips
Dan Blough reported that he is organizing a camping trip to  San Diego, January 13th through 19th.  He also announced a Glamping event in Buellton, after the Barn Party in May.  Please let Dan know if you are interested in either of these events.

Barn Party 2019
Kevin Walthers reported on plans for next year’s Barn Party.  There has been discussion on changing the date, as it has been held during Mother’s Day weekend.  While the date might be changed for next year, for 2019 it will still be held during Mother’s Day Weekend.  However, there has been discussion of changing the time form 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  The menu won’t change, but the committee is looking at a new theme.

Shoes for Students: Sunday September 9th at the Santa Maria Country Club. This is a fundraising golf tournament, the money goes to provide shoes and clothing for students in need.   Golfers are still needed, and raffle tickets for a $2,000 gas card are available. Contact Kate Ferguson for more information.

SUNNY Country "Mission Hope" Concert: The event will be held at Presquile Winery on Saturday September 29. See Rich Watson for more details.

Casa at the Club: Saturday October 6th @ SMCC.  Our club is a silver table sponsor (which means that we have about 10 seats). Let Frank Ortiz know if you are interested in attending.

Operation Surf: Ted & Beth Ortega are once again hosting this great event. To make this event successful, club volunteers are needed. The date is Friday October 12th, so there is plenty of time to sign up.
BRAGS:

Mark Jackson (Rotarian of the Month):
Mark attended his 40th Class reunion last weekend; well actually he coordinated it!  Mark reported that it was great to reconnect with old classmates. It was St. Joe’s warmest reunion - 65 strong. Mark thanked Teresa Rayburn, Chris Hastert and Pat McDermott for helping him with some of the materials for the event.

Shannon Seifert bragged on Dan Blough.  She was at the Country Club for a planning meeting, and Dan invited her to dinner. She also bragged on Frank Ortiz.  $50

Michelle Jensen bragged that yesterday was her husband’s birthday, and their son won the Bass Master Championship. $30

Lee Carroll bragged that a person that he met when he worked at the Lompoc penitentiary, (yes, Lee received a lot ribbing about that), now works for Sea World.  He treated Lee and Joey to a visit to Sea World.   It was a very fun time and great trip. $25

James Thomas bragged on celebrating his 3rd wedding anniversary. $30

Pat McDermott bragged on a great vacation in memory of Dave Carty at McCall, Idaho.  The trip included boating and white water rafting. $25

FINES:

Abel Maldonado was fined in absentia.

Glenn Morris was fined $30 for not bragging on his Birthday.

Mike Moats was fined $30 because of a Straw issue? Santa Barbara has adopted the strictest policy in the county around straws.

The following members were fined $30 each because they didn't know their Coca-Cola trivia:
Frank Ortiz
Dale Johnson
Rich Watson
Michelle Jensen
PROGRAM: - Club Assembly
In lieu of a program this week a Club Assembly was held.  The purpose of the assembly being to discuss our Continuing Resolutions, which drive the club’s work over the course of the year.

Frank Ortiz reviewed the Continuing Resolutions, which included the following:
  • The Club will be sending Kevin and his wife to Hamburg Germany for the International Conference
  • Kevin will also be going to PETS
  • It is important to pay your Rotary Bill
    • Dues are paid to Rotary International and District 40
    • Members are charged for meals even if you aren’t in attendance.  There is an option for coffee drinkers only.
  • Membership will be important this year.  We have some members leaving
  • We have 10 members that are 85ers- remember that they still are expected to come to meetings
    • 85 Club Member – to be considered an 85er you must have been in the club at least 20 years.  The total of your years in Rotary and your age must add up to 85. Benefits include being a little more lax on attendance, but 85ers are to participate in major events and when they don’t attend a meeting they aren’t charged for breakfast.
  • Red Badge membership - sponsor needs to help the new member to meet everyone
  • Brags go to club foundation and support our foundation and scholarships. You can donate as much as you want, but at a minimum you donate $150 a year.
  • Fines support club functions, (our ongoing work).  Each member is fined at least $150 per person per year.
  • We are a 70-member club, which means that we have a maximum of 70 members - no more. If you have 70 members and 10 are 85ers you can only have 60 active members.
A lengthy discussion was held regarding membership and several other topics.  It was agreed to have a  2ndClub Assembly at which time we will finalize some of the Continuing Resolutions as well as hold the election.
