ANNOUNCEMENTS

Next Saturday May 13 / 5:30 PM to ? is the date/time and if you don't have tickets yet, please contact any one of our members and they will be glad to sell you a pair (or maybe two?).

BRAGS

Jean-luc Garon (Rotarian of the Month): Two brags - 1. His wife Tanya, celebrated a birthday recently. 2. The Historic Santa Maria Inn will soon be celebrating it's 100th Anniversary (more details to follow in the coming weeks).

Mike Gibson: bragged on the overall success of the recent CALM "Ladies Get Loud" fundraiser held last Thursday. This year the event raised $41,362 in much needed funds. Mike thanked all the lady club member participants in addition to the many male club members that helped by being a waiter. $41.....or maybe that was $410???.......(calm down Mike, just kiddingcheeky)

Mark Jackson: bragged $30 on Pat & Cyndy McDermott for inviting he and his family for an impromptu dinner at his home. Then the brag took a turn for the worse (something about a skateboard and  the breaking of his daughter's leg???........or something like that). Anyway, I'm sure fun was had by all :)

Chris Hastert: Mr. Hastert hasn't been able to attend very many meetings recently. Apparently he thinks that hanging out on Fremont Street in Las Vegas counts as a make up. Let me think.......uh, No!   Anyway the picture was great and I think he had a good time while he was there, so that was worth $30

Lee Carroll: really appreciated the help of fellow club member Kevin Walthers. He aided Lee in securing a bike for a homeless young man and also helped him get enrolled at AHC (the young man, not Lee) $25

Andy Caldwell: once again had a very successful COLAB dinner and fundraising auction at the Chumash Casino. He specifically thanked fellow club members Martin Testa, Jean-luc Garon and Terri Stricklin for their help with food, lodging and auction prizes. Let's not forget the spectacular entertainment of "DJ Sup", that was worth the price of admission by itself. Thanks Andy for the $100 brag.

Karl McClain: watched as his wife "Came on Down!" at a recent taping of the Price is Right game show. Not only did Paula make it to the stage but managed to win numerous prizes (including the big showcase of the daysurprise). Karl was extremely proud of Paula and they are looking forward to driving their new Mini-Cooper up and down the Central Coast in the very near future. That was worth a whopping $200 (Thank Karl!!!)

Mike Gibson (part 2): his two daughter's (Lacey & Sandra) are both expecting new additions to the family in November. Mike and Marla are very excited and are looking forward to welcoming the new grand babies.

FINES

President Tamura knows that the days are counting down to her last meeting later this month. So, to help her catch up with her fine allotment for every member, the following fines were handed out at $30 each

Peter Sterling: Introducing a guest by the wrong name

Carl Deriso: Asking a question that the President didn't know the answer???

Jim Small: For something very important I'm sure (Whoops.....forgot to write it down)
PROGRAMS

"VTC Elks Queen Candidate"
Madison Hall

Ms. Hall is currently a Junior at St. Joseph High School. This year she is representing VTC for the title of Elks Queen 2017. In addition to being a student, Madison is very involved in school activities. Being a varsity cheerleader and serving as President of the Interact Club are just a few of her extracurricular activities. After graduation, she plans on attending the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). Madison encouraged all club members to attend as many fundraising activities in May as possible. She will also be attending the Rotary Barn Party Luau where some of the club's proceeds will go directly to her campaign. For more information on fundraising opportunities go to www.vtcrodeoqueen.com.

"YMCA Sr. Program Director"
Krista Delia

Krista took the opportunity to thank the club for it's continued financial support over the years. Having just completed their annual fundraising campaign, she was pleased to announce that they once again exceeded their annual goal. This year, over $250,000 was raised by the many volunteers that helped during the campaign. The donated funds will go towards the many programs that the YMCA has to offer. Swim lessons, Y Reading Program and financial assistance for pre-school participants are just a few of the areas that the donations will help with. Rotary Club Past President Shannon Seifert is very proud of Krista and the rest of her management team as they strive to make the Santa Maria Valley YMCA the best it can be.
