 SANTA MARIA VALLEY YMCA GOLF TOURNAMENT
 
Come One, Come All!
 
The 'Y' is sponsoring their 43rd annual "FUN"RAISER Golf Tournament!
The event will be conducted on September 9 at 12 Noon at Santa Maria Country Club.

Rotary District Conference: November 18 - 20 at the Santa Barbara Hilton.
 
 
Christmas Parade of Lights: Mark your calendars for Saturday December 3rd, that's when the parade will happen this year. All Rotarians are needed to make sure that we turn out a successful event. Clipboard sign ups will be appearing as the event gets closer.

Serve Santa Maria:  September 20th. Meet at the Abel Maldonado Youth Center @ 9:00 AM to volunteer your time and help to improve our community. Should last until around 12:30 PM

Check Presentation
 
This morning, our club presented a check for $1,000 to Angels Foster Care. This non-profit organization protects abused, neglected and abandoned infants and toddlers, nurtures them in one loving home until adoption or reunification, and ensures that they reach their maximum development potential.
 
Another Check Presentation
 
Our club presented a check for $500 to Community Partners In Caring. Sesloc also added and additional check for $500 to this worthy organization that provides free and direct volunteer services to seniors living in Santa Barbara County.
 
Craft Talk
 
Club member Steve Fuhring spoke to our group about his wonderful family life and his successful electrician business. He and his wife Sandra, have two daughters and 16 employees for their growing business. He is very happy and thanks his wife for being a great partner in life and business.
BRAGS
 Mark Clarke: he and Linda had a recent wedding anniversary. $49
 
Jim Peterson: recently returned from a Los Angeles touristy trip that involved all kinds of venues and destinations. He and Arlene had a great time. $25
 
Dale Johnson: Visited his daughter in England and found out that he was going to be a grandpa. $100
 
Mike Gibson: had a great time in Gray Eagle (by Tahoe) for a family vacation. Unfortunately his Mother passed away, but he got to be with her before she passed on. $50
 
Pat McDermott: also returned from a lengthy vacation that involved Bodega Bay, Napa Valley and Gray Eagle. $50
 
Laurie Tamura: had a birthday and was treated by her family to the Magic Castle in Los Angeles. $65
 
Kevin Walthers: bragged on his new AHC trustee from Guadalupe (Alejandra). $45
 
  FINES
 
Holly Edds, Angie Gumbayon, Kathy Simas, Kelly Briggs, Suzanne Levy, Frank Ortiz, Lee Carroll and Jason Stillwell (Oops...Jason got it right) were all fined $30 each because they didn't know the answers to a variety of trivia questions by President Berto.

Downtown Specific Plan

This morning (with the aid of Laurie Tamura) Jason spoke about the pending plans for the Santa Maria downtown area. These included talks of residential high rise buildings as well as additional restaurants and businesses. Mr. Stillwell brought Powerpoint renderings that showed the intended layout and areas that will be effected. Afterwards. Jason and Laurie answered the many questions that came from audience members
