BRAGS:

Monthly Rotarian of the Decade: Jerry Schmidt bragged on his recent trip to Las Vegas where he saw the rock group Def Leppard. He also was happy that deer season officially opened. Coming up in the near future he and his wife will make a trip to Oregon to visit his In-Laws. All this equals a well deserved free brag.

Angelica Gumabon: went to the WEBS fundraiser at the SMCC this past week where approximately 200 people were in attendance. This was also her first time at the Country Club. In fact, she didn't even know that it was there. Her sister also celebrated a birthday on September 11.  $30

Ed Carcarey: cheerfully (I use that word loosely) treated Pat McDermott to an 8 course meal at Chef Ricks. This was a result of losing a bet during last year's NFL season. I know it's early, but the Patriots are looking good already. So Ed, I wouldn't jump into another bet right away.  $30

Peter Kang: recently celebrated his 3rd wedding anniversary. His wife is currently 37 weeks pregnant and everything is going great.  $30

Frank Ortiz: bragged on having Past President Kirk Spry in the audience this morning. Frank urged him to give an update on he and Kathy's life since they left Santa Maria. They are currently living in Prescott, Arizona and they are having a great time enjoying the area and their family.  $30

Ryan Swack: was very proud of his two son's fundraising efforts for "Shoes For Students". With the help of an anonymous donor, the boys raised $500 for the worthy cause. Ryan will also be celebrating his 10th wedding anniversary next week.  $50

Kate Ferguson: Thanked the entire club for their support of the SOS fundraiser. She especially wanted to thank the Swack boys for their lemonade stand contribution. $50

Roberto Rodriguez: There is a new Boys & Girls Club in Shandon that our local staff helped put together. An official ribbon cutting will be coming this Monday. Berto is very proud of everyone that made this dream become a reality.  $25

Jason Stillwell: Jason's son Brody is headed to Cal Poly to start his college career. Both parents are very proud and happy for him. $35

Gary Nemetz: Gary and his two sons completed a 72 mile bike ride around the perimeter of Lake Tahoe. They all were very tired but had a great feeling of satisfaction after completing the ride.  $72

FINES:

The following members were fined $30 today: Why??.....just because (I think?)

David Leroy, Ted Ortega, Frank Ortiz, Doug Palmer, Tim Seifert, Laurie Tamura, Martin Testa and Dave Wright.
 Program

Rotary Program in La Paz, Mexico
Mr. Joe Gruba

This morning's program was presented by SM Rotary South member Joe Gruba. Mr. Gruba is a retired educator who has been working closely with underprivileged students in La Paz, Mexico. The educational project is currently the recipient of an education grant but is still looking for supplementary dollars to help with the education program. A yearly amount of roughly 5,500 pesos ($300) is required per student. The money raised helps purchase the necessary supplies and uniforms needed to properly administer the curriculum plan. His Rotary Club has begun the fundraising process by donating $2,000 to the well deserving project. Our club will add an additional $1,000 to help fulfill the necessary budget requirements.
