The Santa Maria City Council renamed the Chapel Street Plaza the Teresa Machado Plaza to honor a long-time city staffer and SMBR member for excellence in service. She spent 39 years with the city, serving in numerous departments, including the City Manager's Office, Utilities Department, the Parks & Recreation Department, and the founding of various youth programs, such as the after-school programs. She was instrumental in the city’s 1998 All-America City designation, and the 2017 Mayor’s Task Force on Youth Safety initiative.
Teresa was fondly remembered by numerous SMBR members at the ceremony. All of which shared her many talents and abilities of a life cut short, but very well lived in service to others.
