International Service Project
The Silence Between
Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer. Any yet, for far too many women prevention arrives too late. Women are being diagnosed with pre-cancerous lesions every day: The medical knowledge exists; the screen programs are in place; and the moment of intervention is clear. But, all too often there is a gap, a delay when nothing happens.
Between diagnosis and treatment, there is a gap…The Silence Between… caused by limited resources, overburdened systems, and a lack of timely access to care. It is within this gap that preventable conditions progress into life-threatening disease.
The Silence Between is a Rotary International-led initiative designed to close that gap by strengthening what already exists, equipping Hospital General Dr. Miguel Silva with the tools, training, and clinical integration needed to treat pre-cancerous lesions at the moment of detection.
The Silence Between addresses a simple but urgent truth:
We are not losing women because we cannot detect disease.
We are losing them because we are unable to
act in time.
Short-term Goal: It is envisioned as a one-year cycle with a budget of approximately $101,000. Long Term Goal: Put into place a program that eliminates the gap between diagnosis and care by embedding effective treatment within the healthcare system.
This project is a partnership between the Rotary Clubs of Bakersfield East and the Rotary Club of Tres Marias (Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico). Global Grant 2574882
