GUESTS OF ROTARIANS:  Jason Stillwell and Acu Masnavi,
Acu  is a  former exchange student.  She shared with the club what has happened in her life since returning home to Argentina.  Due to her experiences here, and the support she received from her sponsors, she started doing community service work, became a psychologists, and is now working on her PhD. 
ANNOUNCEMENTS
1) Pirates of Penzance, next Friday @ PCPA:  for those who purchased tickets, they will be available at Will Call
 
2)  OCAF Gala Fundraiser - Saturday February 27th,
 
 
3) Humane Society "Four Legged Affair" Fundraiser, Saturday, April 9.
 
 
4) Breakfast Rotary Barn Party - Saturday May 14th

5) SLO Rotary has three upcoming events to help eradicate Polio:

BRAGS
Dave Wright ($25):  His 5th grand child was born last Thursday
Craig Bernard ($100): Bragged on his recent trip to India for 15 days, skiing in Utah and Wyoming, and recent knee replacement surgery
Laurie Tamura ($25):  Recently took her family to the Hitching Post, they ate on the patio despite 30 MPH winds, the restaurant was packed, so they were grateful to have a seat
Randy Wise ($34):  Recently celebrated his 34th wedding anniversary,
Jim Peterson ($25):  Will celebrate his 10th wedding anniversary, and on Valentines Day he bought Arlene a new Lexus 
 
FINES
Peter Sterling was fined $30 for not paying attention
Name that Airplane Contest:
1)Pat McDermott fined $30 because he couldn’t identify the Blimp from the clues given
2) Kate Ferguson was able to identify the C130 from the clues, so “no fine for her”.
Rotary/Kiwanis Trivia Contest
1)Team Rotary:  Mark Jackson & Frank Ortiz – successfully answered all questions  about Rotary(no fine)
2)Team Kiwanis: Mike Moats & Frank Ortiz – Unsuccessful in answering their questions  about Kiwanis ($30 fine for Mike)  However for his participation Mike was awarded a “thumb drive” to which he proclaimed, what is this??
PROGRAM

 
This week's program was presented by club members Terri Stricklin and Frank Ortiz.  They reported on our International Services Projects.
Our club has been involved in service projects all over the world.
Four projects were highlighted
1) Bareilly India: Rotary Public School ($1,000)
2) Sri Lanka: Early Childhood Education, helping train pre-school teachers in rural Sri Lanka - project with Goleta Rotary  ($1,000)
3) Bolivia: Teaching business skills  through a Bakery Storefront to 60 girls from an orphanage, working with Templeton Rotary ($1,000)
4) Bosnia: Teaching women to be self-sustaining by learning to process, dry, and preserve tomatoes - project with Ojai Club  ($500)
 
Joe Gruba, from Santa Maria South presented on a project to raise money to help the schools in La Paz Mexico.  There is a need for water filtration as they do not have a good source of potable water.  He showed the club a Water Filtration Bucket Kit that can be purchased for $50.
Dale Johnson bid $500, towards the purchase of Filtration Buckets.  Our board will review providing additional support from our club.
