BRAGS
Mike Buhring bragged on the Barn Party Luau and thanked everyone for all the work. Mark Jackson’s decorating coordination was great; everything popped. The food was amazing as usual, and the auctioneer did a great job. We grossed over $100,000. We stayed true to our club. The new Dessert Auction raised $1,800 for Michelle’s Interact Club, and close to $19,000 was raised for scholarships.
Mark Jackson bragged $50 on everyone who helped in decorating for the Barn Party. Two people were particular standouts - Craig Bernard as a model helper in set-up, and Kathy Simas as a Newbie doing it right
Shannon Seifert bragged $50 on Mark Jackson, everything he does is amazing.
Wendy Foxen bragged $50 on celebrating her 33rd wedding anniversary, and the Rotaract Volunteers and Terri Strickland for helping with the banking and check-in.
Pat McDermott bragged $50 on James Thomas, who rose to the occasion as the bar master. He had a creative idea to avoid having to take back 17 cases of wine; everyone that walked out with an auction item was given a bottle of wine.
Jean-luc Garon bragged $54 on his birthday
Abel Maldonado bragged $100 on his son, Dino’s choice for college. He will be going to Portland State University.
Michelle Jensen bragged $50 on her 13 Interact students who helped with the Barn Party. Also, her husband, Larry, bought a travel trailer. They are going to Avila this weekend to play at the beach.
Mike Gibson bragged $50 on the scholarship committee for reviewing 97 applications. Every application is several pages long. Twenty-nine students will be receiving $30,000 in scholarships. Money from the barn party will help fund scholarships for next year.
Rich Watson bragged $200 on winning the drawing at the Barn Party, he requested that $100 of his brag go to the scholarship fund.
Wayne Miller bragged $50 on his team winning a golf tournament. Apparently it was supposed to be a Rotary team, but they recruited some non-Rotarian ringers. They came in 18 under and played a great game.
Tim Seifert bragged $50 on the BBQ crew, and gave a shout-out to Dave Wright for always keeping them under control.

PROGRAM
Tri-Valley RC Modelers
Clark Styles and Bill Tjadon spoke about the Tri-Valley RC Modelers Club, which is a club that supports flying radio controlled airplanes. They have been an active club for 54 years, and are located at the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo Grounds. They fly different sizes of planes, and also boats. They are open 7 days a week, but the gates are locked during the week. Weekends are the best time to come and get the kids out of the house.
One of their main goals is to encourage the youth of the community. To meet this goal they do a lot of functions for the youth, including Boy Scout Troops. Bill Tjadon spoke about the difference this program made for his son. Bill brought his son out, and he fell in love with it. His son had training for over a month, and one of the members took him under his wing and was a fantastic mentor to his son. Before Bill could blink, he had a garage full of airplanes, and his son’s interest continued to grow over time. This led his son to a path of STEM and an interest in engineering. He was accepted to Cal Poly’s aerospace engineering program.
