ANNOUNCEMENTS
1) Kristine Mollenkopf announced Rotating Dinners and explained how they work. She needs volunteers to host the dinners. A clip board was pasted around for host sign-up, along with number of guests each host can accommodate.
2) Dave Morgan announced the Fire Fund for the Hotchkiss Family who lost their house to a devastating fire. While they have insurance, it is not covering everything and they need help. On Saturday Sept 12th a Dinner Auction will be held at the Orcutt Presbyterian Church. The event will include Dinner (Santa Maria Style BBQ) and Silent Auction. They need our help, anything that you can do is appreciated. Tickets are available.
3) Kate Ferguson announced the annual Shoes for Students Golf Tournament that is coming up on Sunday, September 13th. A Clip board passed for sign-up for Dinner and/or as a Golfer. Entry forms and tickets are available.
4) Pat McDermott presented a check to Santa Maria Youth and Family Center. They are a Non-profit organization that has provided support to our community for over 40 years. They are sponsoring a joint fund raiser with PCPA production of Man of La Mancha, Sunday Aug 9 at Solvang Theatrefest.
5) Wendy Foxen announced the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Installation and Awards Dinner on August 12, 2015 at the Santa Maria Elks Club: 6pm cocktails, 7pm dinner. Two Rotarians are being Honored : Dr. Jim Peterson and Halsell Builders
Our Club will be sponsoring several tables.
6) Mike Moats announced Santa Maria Noontime Kiwanis Club Fundraiser one week from Friday – August 7th @ Dino's Martini lounge. Martinis, dinner, band, reverse auction. Tickets $25.00.
7) Cruizin for Life Car Show for Sept 18-19 was announced. Our Club will sponsor a table for the dinner.
The Special Olympics World Games in 2015 came our way as the Club hosted three teams for a BBQ dinner at the Fillipino Hall. Several Breakfast Rotarians assisted with this fantastic and fun evening.
BRAGS & FINES
Rotarian og the Month - Carol Bradfield bragged on her family vacation which included hiking and horseback riding.
Kevin Walthers bragged $50 on his Lake Tahoe vacation. His son, Trey, caught the only fish that was caught on the lake that day.
Jim Bray bragged $50 on the Host Town Special Olympics, recognized everyone who helped with the Special Olympics, including: Mike Buhring, Teresa Reyburn, Santa Maria Inn, Radisson, Dave Wright’s BBQ group.
Teresa Reyburn bragged on the Special Olympics. She is having a special T shirt made for all who helped!
Mike Moats bragged $100.00 on his week-long vacation to Catalina Island with his seven Grandchildren.
Jim Peterson bragged $25.00 on winning the Pebble Beach Golf raffle prize at the Boys and Girls Club Golf Tournament. Also bragged expressed how he was humbled and proud of being Citizen of the Year. Add another $100.00!
Kate Ferguson bragged $25.00 for winning a rifle in the Hotchkiss Fire Raffle. She also bragged $75 on the club for having purchased the MOST TICKETS for Shoes For Students!
Jack Gresser 'chipped in' $25 as part of the team that won the Pebble Beach Golf Raffle.
Kate Ferguson was fined $30 for winning a rifle through a raffle.
Shannon Seifert fined herself $10.00 for misspelling Kate's name.
Jim Bray was fined $15 for looking so young in all the pictures he was in during the Special Olympics. Shannon will match another $15.
PROGRAM
Child Abuse Listening and Mediation (CALM)
CALM’s mission is to prevent, assess, and treat child abuse in Santa Barbara County by providing comprehensive, culturally competent services for children, adults, and families.
SCOTT WHITELEY; gave background on CALM. 75% of child abuse calls are north of the Gaviota tunnel. North County had a need for more services and CALM has helped fill that need. Recently they had a pilot program treating children who have been victims of Child Abuse…. The 15 slots filled within two weeks. They deal with very difficult situations. CALM is here for the long haul
Sarah Taniyama who is completing her Master's degree at Cal Poly and working at CALM told the story of one of the case students she has helped. A success story!
