ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Shoes For Students Poker Tournament Fundraiser: Saturday March 12, 2022 / 1:00 PM. Tickets can be purchased from Kate Ferguson or Terri Stricklin.

Roberto Rodriguz: Berto talked about the Boys & Girls Club "Kids Night Out" on February 24th, 2022. They have limited it to 50 adults and 50 children, so sign up today. Berto also mentioned a work party in Guadalupe.

Rotary Barn Party: Saturday May 14th. The event will be focused on a maximum of 300 attendees. Each member will be responsible for four tickets at $100 each.. More info to come.

Rotary Minute: This morning Mark Bachman told us of his several Rotary Minutes and how Jean-luc Garon talked him into joining Rotary. (But of course he had no idea what Jean -luc was saying) Mark is happy to be a member of this Breakfast Rotary Club.

PROGRAM

Herb Cantu

Herb is the Solid Waste Manager at the City of Santa Maria Department of Utilities.

Herb explained the new requirements to recycle edible food products in with your Green Waste.

The concern seems to be the Methane Gas given off by the edible food products when they go to the Landfill although there is a system at the Landfill to capture the Methane Gas and put it to good use at Marion Hospital and other places.

Instead the State wants the food products mixed in with the Green Waste and Composted. Green Waste is only picked up every other week so if your edible food stuff is sitting there for even a few days it is going to start to stink. The solution; keep your waste edible food products in the refrigerator or freezer until Green Waste pickup day. (Or the chickens, the pigs or the disposal)

A question was asked if the escaping Methane Gas during the Composting process was better that capturing the Methane Gas at the Landfill.

The answer was unclear but we need to just trust in the wisdom those in charge at the State.
