VTC Elks Rodeo Queen Candidate Narissa Arrellano

Ms. Arellano spoke to the club regarding all of her upcoming fundraising events. The items listed were too numerous to mention here. Breakfast Rotary recommends going to the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo website for more information.

Angels Tree Ministry Camp

This camp is located in Southern California near Hemet. The mission of the camp is to help children that currently have a parent in prison. Since 2005 it has helped over 300 children. The program helps redirect children's lives so that they hopefully won't follow the same path. After an update by representative Kathy Holst, our club proudly gave her a check for $1,000 to help fund the project.

New Member Induction: Dr. Peter Kang

At this very special club meeting, Mark Jackson had the honor of welcoming the newest member to our Rotary family. Peter comes to us from Louisiana, where he served as a prison Chaplain. He and his wife moved to Santa Maria to become the Priest in Charge of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church located in the heart of Santa Maria. Peter also informed us that they are expecting their first child this September (Congratulations!). Welcome Peter, we are so happy to have you with us!

BRAGS

Shannon Seifert (Rotarian of the Month): Bragged on the YMCA stepdown gathering at the Far Western last night (4/24). Gary Nemetz is now her new boss (at least for the next year). She also bragged on Martin Testa for being such a "huggable guy"laugh

Jean-luc Garon: Jean-luc has been away for a few weeks. During that time he had quite a few things happen in his life. First of all, his Mother of 91 years unfortunately passed away. He celebrated 22 years of marriage with Tanya. Tanya had a birthday. He attended a Rotating dinner at the Gibsons and his hotel won the coveted President's award. A mixture of extreme emotions. $100

Gary Nemetz: bragged $30 on Pat McDermott's fantastic looking (and free I might add) Darren's Berries vest jacket. In fact Gary and Pat had the same fashion taste this morning. :)

Rich Watson: was having his birthday today! We must be getting old, we didn't even sing to himsurprise. That was worth $50

Jim Ventriglia: went to Cabo San Lucas with some close friends and celebrated his birthday while he was down there. $50

Peter Sterling: was very happy to announce that the S.M. Elks Rodeo is now one of the top 18 (out of 600) rodeos in the WPRA circuit. $50

Jason Francia: Mike Gibson passed a hat around to collect funds for Jason's new baby's college fund. Once the funds have been counted, the Francia family will be required to match the amount. At last count, it was close to $1,000. Way to go Rotarians!

FINES:

No Fines Again This Week! (I think a big bill is coming our way soon)
PROGRAM

Thirty Five Years of Breakfast Rotary

This morning our club celebrated 35 years of being an official Rotary Club. To commemorate the event, founding members Karl McClain, Jerry Walsh and Pat McDermott spoke about what it was like during those early formative years. Jimmy V also joined the illustrious group (even though he joined a whole week latercheeky). Since 1984 the club has grown to be the largest Rotary Club in Santa Maria. Our annual Barn Party Luau will once again be happening in the next few weeks (May 11). Jerry Walsh spoke about during the beginning stage of this event, only two people showed up as guests. Needless to say, the members bought quite a few things that year. After the panel was allowed to share their memories, a question and answer period followed.

Cheers to our club for 35 wonderful years and to many more to come!
