Shannon Seifert bragged on Dignity Health’s Day of Hope event. $50

Kevin Walthers bragged on his son Trey’s birthday which was a few weeks ago.   Trey wanted tickets to a local presentation of Hamilton, which are impossible to get. Instead, the family flew to NY, and thanks to two PCPA alums they were able to get tickets and go back stage to meet the actors.  His son’s expression was priceless!  It was a great trip.  $100

PROGRAM

Ken Dahmen
Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition
Our program was provided by Ken Dahmen, who is the Santa Maria Coordinator for the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition.  He is a graduate of Santa Maria High School and promotes bicycle safety.

The Santa Maria office was established about a year ago near the Discovery Museum.  They collect used bicycles and refurbish them for other programs.  They sponsor an after school program at Tommy Kuntz Jr. High School.  This program teaches students how to get to and from their destinations safety.  They also have elementary programs at Liberty and two schools in Lompoc, where they teach bicycle safety through PE classes.  Some of the students come into the shop and build and earn bicycles.

Their shop is open on Wednesdays and during the weekends.  It is a “do it yourself” shop where you complete your own repairs.  Fixing the bike yourself is empowering.  They will take any bike as a donation no matter the condition.  Since opening last year they have given away 83 bikes.
