VISITING ROTARIANS: Deborah Linden (Program) and Scottie Ortiz
GUESTS OF ROTARIANS: None
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
USS Indianapolis (1945): In honor of the 75th anniversary of the USS Indianapolis, Frank Ortiz has posted a link on our Rotary Club website that relates the story of the naval ship and the brave men that served on it during WWII. In 2004, survivor Ed Brown attended our club meeting and told the harrowing story of what went on during the attack and how he made it through the grueling ordeal. The website program takes roughly an hour to watch, but it's well worth the time invested. Big thanks go to Jim Foxen for helping to put this all together with Frank
Downtown Fridays: will definitely resume, it will just be.....virtual? I understand the entertainment segment, but how are we supposed to eat the delicious food virtually? Oh well, lets give it a try and see how things go.
The Ducks Are Back!
Quite a few members purchased Duck tickets this morning at our meeting. If you would also like to participate (remember, it's August 1), please contact Frank Ortiz and he will write you down and your payment will be added to your monthly invoice. It's for a great cause, let's see if we can get 100% participation (it's worth a try).
VTC Fundraising Car Drawing: Tickets are still being sold for the chance to win this beautiful vehicle. Only 700 tickets will be sold. This is another great fundraiser. If you're interested in purchasing a ticket, Tanya Astrosky is the one you need to talk to. Hurry before tickets run out!
Covid-19 Updates: President Ryan gave us the most current updates regarding our city and county. Unfortunately things are not changing for the better as of yet. All we can do is keep doing our part to help things move along in a positive direction (mask, social distancing, gloves (if necessary). Please be safe out there my friends.
BRAGS:
Shannon Seifert: Shannon, their pet dog and husband Tim just returned from a tent campout in the woods to celebrate their (42?) wedding anniversary. They had not done that in quite a few years and they had a great time. $100
Jerry Walsh: recently celebrated he and Ann's 51st wedding anniversary. No camping for them, they just celebrated
Jason Stillwell: had a birthday. He didn't say much. All we know is that apparently he's 53 (could've sworn he was 63) Anyway....$53
FINES:
Lee Carroll: posed in a cute, great picture of him and his adorable granddaughter. No brag, so Ryan fined him $30
Laurie Tamura: rumor has it that she's apparently hitting golf balls through defenseless home windows. Hmmm........$30
Mark Clarke: Apparently plays golf super early (missed last weeks meeting). That will cost him $30
Shannon Seifert: I'm not quite sure what I heard? She either wore a face shield during spin class or she didn't. Doesn't matter cause either way she's out $30
Program
Rotary District Governor Deborah Linden
Our club had the honor of having Deb Linden as our featured speaker this morning. She is the former San Luis Obispo Police Chief and now serves as our Rotary District Governor. She spoke to us about the many opportunities to help better our community as well as the world as a whole. She asked that we all help recruit new members to help grow our ranks. We also need to find ways to help enhance the Rotary brand. During her presentation, she took a moment to honor Frank Ortiz as she presented him with a District "People of Action" award. To conclude her program she reminded everyone that this year's theme is "Rotary Opens Opportunities" and urged everyone to take that to heart as we move forward through these trying times. She welcomed questions from the audience after she completed her presentation.
