ANNOUNCEMENTS

Jr. High Interviews: Laurie Tamura reminded everyone that today (5/24) will be the Jr. High interviews that quite a few members signed up for. If you have volunteered for this event, please check your calendars and show up on time and at the correct school.

Rotary Step Down Party: Please mark your calendars. This year our step down party will happen on June 24th at our favorite place, The Hitching Post. More details will follow in the coming weeks.

Santa Maria Police Golf Tournament: Monday June 11. If interested, Jerry Schmidt has all the details and a sign up sheet.

Annual Scholarship Meeting: Next week (5/31), Mike Gibson will be in charge of our annual scholarship awards meeting. This year we will be awarding 31 scholarships. All members are urged to attend and show their support for the graduating high school seniors as they travel down the road to become leaders of tomorrow. As an added bonus, Courtney Reyburn will be our special guest speaker.

Thank You Card: Pat McDermott received a card from Jimmy Friedlein thanking the club for their financial support during his family's time of crisis. Pictured below is the card along with a picture of his two daughters, Aspen and Grace. Thank you Jimmy for the kind words. It was our pleasure to help out.

Blough's Glamping Expedition: This past weekend, quite a few Rotarians attended a Glamping Trip to the Flying Flags RV campgrounds in Buellton. Great food, drinks and friendship were had by everyone that attended

Santa Maria Police Council: A check for $1,000 was presented at this week's meeting.

Scottie Ortiz Birthday Bash: Husband Frank thoroughly surprised (I think) Scottie honoring her recent birthday. Quite a few Rotarians and other guests attended the celebration at their home.

BRAGS & FINES

Randy Wise: Bragged $30 on winning the "Best Attempt" belt buckle at this year's Beardarino Contest at the Elks. He also wanted to thank all of his "Rotary Beard Bro's" for entering the contest with him. The event was a loads of fun and everyone had a great time

Kate Ferguson: Attended the weekend Glamping Trip and thought that Chef Blough's culinary skills were fantastic. She was so happy in fact, that she bragged $50 on the entire eventlaugh

Kevin Walthers: bragged on a recent award he received from C.A.C. as well as his stellar golf playing skills that were on display at a recent tournament. Both of those combined resulted in a $100 donation to the club. Thanks Kevin!

There were a few fines (although I think everyone is maxed out at this point). Ken Bradley (failure to follow goatee instructions), Roberto Rodriguez (gave President Shannon a heart attack with a very loud noise maker) and Wayne Miller (who knows? It must be a trumped up chargewink)
PROGRAM

Mr. Alan Daurio
Dana Adobe Cultural Center

This week's program included an informative and insightful look at the historical Dana Adobe building as well as the new Dana Adobe Cultural Center that is almost ready to open. Mr. Daurio gave the club a brief history lesson as to how the Dana Adobe house came to be, it's ultimate deterioration period and the restoration process that's taken place since that time. A dedicated group of volunteers has taken the reins of maintaining the area and the buildings that currently sit on the property. Additional volunteers are always needed to help keep this important undertaking moving in a positive direction. If you have the time and this piques your interest, please call 929-5679 for more information or to sign up.
