BRAGS

Andy Caldwell (Rotarian of the Month) - Andy used his free brag to comment on the Santa Maria Airport billboard on the 101 freeway. Apparently it's been modified to say "SFO is SOL"...........I guess you'd have to be there :-)

Eddie Stanfield - was extremely happy to visit with the foreign exchange student that he hosted back in 1996-97. She has now grown up to be a very successful 38 year old woman with a family of her own. That was worth $25

Laurie Tamura - bragged $25 on everyone that was involved in last week's Good Samaritan pizza feed (Martin & Debi Testa and Michelle Jensen). She also thanked everyone that helped with the Rotary banner clean up on Saturday as well.

Wendy Foxen - moved into a new one story house! She is extremely excited and bragged $100 on Kate Ferguson and Jim Ventriglia for all their help getting through the process.

Jim Peterson - had a birthday recently. He was so happy about it that he bragged approximately 40% of his age for $25. (you do the math)

Martin Testa - had a great time at Jerry & Ann Walsh's home for their Italian dinner that they auction off every year at the Barn Party. Everything was fantastic! $35

Mark Clarke - enjoyed his vacation from not working in Hawaii. This also included his 43rd wedding anniversary. Having said that, $43 seemed an appropriate amount to brag.

Shannon Seifert - wanted to thank Alex (from Rotaract), for helping with the the Family Day in the Park last week. The services she and her club provided were of great help.....$50

Abel Maldonado - Abel's son is going to be the starting quarterback on this year's St. Joseph Knight football team. He performed really well at last week's game and they are now looking forward to the annual battle with Righetti on 9/2. The proud Papa bragged $100.

Tony Spinelli - just returned from a lengthy overseas trip that included England and Scotland. As a golfing enthusiast, he enjoyed playing on the many courses that were available to him. $50

Jim Small - is very happy with fellow Rotary member Lee Carroll. Lee has done a great job of getting quality programs for our club meetings. $50

Free Brags - President Tamura was pleased that fellow members Valerie Moya, Kristine Mollenkopf and Carol Bradfield all had their pins on when they were photographed recently, that she gave them the opportunity for free brags (I think??)

FINES

Martin Testa - was fined because he is going to remodel one of his restaurants??? I don't quite understand, but it was worth $30 anyway.

Terri Stricklin - didn't brag about going to a Dodgers game recently (they lost, which is probably why no brag). Nonetheless, she had an extremely fun time with her kids. $30

PROGRAM

The Central Coast Literacy Council was the subject of this week's program. Laura discussed the overall mission of the organization as well as all the programs it is currently involved with. The council partners with many businesses on the Central Coast to help their employees better understand written English language as well as the spoken word. Tutors of all ages are always needed and Ms. Arteaga urged anyone interested to contact her office for more details. A question and answer session was opened up to the membership after her presentation.
